Late Thursday night, I finally finished my Northern Lights mittens. I started working on them back in the fall and then set them aside to do Christmas knitting. It feels good to check them off my list.
They were worth the wait, right? I think they're gorgeous. The wolf at the bottom on the right is just adorable. Here's a picture of the palms. I love that wave pattern. It was fun to knit, too.
After spending so long on a fiddly complicated pattern like this, I'm ready to do a simple garter stitch scarf. I started one last night. It will probably be another cowl. I've decided that cowls are a lot warmer and more practical on really cold windy days, mainly because they can't be blown off your neck. And there's nothing more annoying than having the wet, bedraggled tail of a scarf blowing in your face when the windchill is 20 below zero and you can't see through the driving snow anyway. Yeah, winters in Chicago are a true test of the spirit (or they were before global warming kicked in). Anyway, hope you're enjoying some end-of-winter knitting and looking forward to spring.
